Primary education is foundation of Tanzania education that prepare a pupils for further studies especially for secondary, advanced and tertiary level.
Primary education passes through different stages such as nursery, grade one to grade four and grade five to grade seven.
Nursery is a stage whereby a child is prepared for basic skills learning. Such as playing different games, reading and writing. After acquiring those skills a child is allowed to join grade one class. The assessment is done by different techniques such as reading books and writing.
Grade one to grade four is a stage of child to prepare him or her self for standard four examinations. A pupil read, write and make different calculation on this level. Subjects taught are English, mathematics, science, civic moral and social studies. After reaching grade four they are eligible of doing NECTA examination for standard four.
Grade five to grade seven. On this stage a student prepare him or her self for standard seven NECTA examinations. After passing the examination a pupil is eligible to join secondary education for further studies. But Tanzania education has changed the curriculum from 2023 but it is started to be implemented in 2025, for all grade four pupils, they are going to do standard six NECTA examination instead of standard seven NECTA examinations.
